About the project
TRAILS4SOIL is a European Horizon Europe Mission Soil project designed to accelerate the transition to regenerative and conservation agriculture and improve soil health across Europe. The project is establishing a network of Living Labs and demonstration sites where researchers, farmers, advisers, businesses and policymakers jointly develop, test and improve sustainable soil management practices.
TRAILS4SOIL contributes to the EU Mission “A Soil Deal for Europe”, which aims to establish 100 Living Labs and lighthouses by 2030 to accelerate the transition towards healthy soils and more resilient farming systems.
Slovenian Living Lab
The Slovenian Living Lab is coordinated by the Biotechnical Faculty, University of Ljubljana, in cooperation with the Slovenian Association for Conservation Agriculture (SZOK). It focuses primarily on developing conservation agriculture solutions and integrating crop and livestock production as a key approach to improving soil health.
Activities bring together farmers, researchers, advisers and other stakeholders to develop, test and disseminate practices for improving soil health under Slovenian conditions.
Main project objectives
TRAILS4SOIL promotes:
• improved soil fertility and structure
• increased soil organic matter
• greater soil biological activity
• better water retention and infiltration
• reduced erosion
• greater resilience of farming systems to climate change
• more effective knowledge exchange between research, advisory services and farming practice
SZOK’s role
SZOK is involved in the project in connecting farmers and other stakeholders, organizing demonstration activities, disseminating project results, and promoting the introduction of regenerative and conservation practices in Slovenia. It is also participating in the development of the Slovenian Living Lab as an open platform for the exchange of knowledge and good practices.
